the day of the biggest Slovenian sports events is behind us, and with it also the encouraging results of how we, as a company, once again contributed to a better environment. As part of the SharePlanica project, Mastercard has reduced the number of cars in Planica thanks to shared transport, thereby saving as much as 12 tons of CO2. With the amount of CO2 saved, a house could be heated with a heat pump for 19 years, a refrigerator could work for 41 years, a laptop could be charged for 130 years, a 7W LED bulb (equivalent to a 60W classic bulb) could burn for 648 years, a gasoline car could last 1, Circumnavigated the world 7 times. As part of the Priceless Planet Coalition, Mastercard will plant 10,913 trees, making an additional contribution to a planet without an expiration date.

As he commented on the project in Planica dr. Franci Petek, director of the Sports Institute of the Republic of Planica: "What we would achieve in a whole year by turning off the lights, here we achieve with a single drive. I really welcome any such action. And I must say that SharePlanica is really the queen among these campaigns.”

Planica has always connected Slovenia

This time, however, she also connected it in active care for the environment. Mastercard has created a car-sharing platform in collaboration with Planica as part of its sponsorship of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup Final SharePlanica.si, on which visitors to Planica shared transportation and thus significantly reduced the CO2 footprint of Planica from the point of view of personal transport. The project was joined by influential people (Jernej Damjan, Jurij Tepeš, Miha Deželak, Katka Bogataj, Urška Ahac, Uroš Bitenc, Lucija Odar, Jan Filip Jordan Frangeš) and important Slovenian companies (NLB, Zavarovalnica Triglav, Big Bang, Pivovarna Laško Union and Športna Lottery of Slovenia).

193 transports were announced, 690 people were transported, 66,165 kilometers were saved, which helped to reduce Planica's CO2 footprint by as much as 12 tons! With the mentioned amount of CO2 saved, according to the calculations of the Center for Energy Efficiency of the Jožef Stefan Institute, which took care of the real numbers for the project, it would be possible to:

  • An electric stove that burned continuously for 2.3 years
  • We heated a 60 square meter apartment for 4.5 years
