The MING watchmaking house is not a classic Swiss story of tradition and heritage. It was founded by photographer Ming Thein, who built his career on an obsessive exploration of light, its reflections and textures. This visual discipline now flows directly into their watches.

By model 57.04 Iris, which introduced a multi-phase color-changing dial, MING is now taking it a step further. The new 29.06 Peep Show it doesn't just change the color – it changes the presence of the dial itself. Sometimes it's there. Sometimes it's not.

Optical trick: when pointers are no longer pointers

The core of the watch is surprisingly simple and yet extremely ingenious. The classic hands are replaced by two discs of linearly polarized sapphire. These act as optical filters that control how much light reaches the dial.

When the discs are aligned, light passes through to reveal an iridescent, multi-layered guilloche dial. When they are rotated 90 degrees, the polarization is broken – the light stops and the dial disappears into near-total blackness.

The clock thus constantly transitions between three states: color, reflection, and darkness. This is not a classic display of time, but a slow optical transformation.

Dial: between an oil slick and a light spectrum

When unfolded, the dial reveals a deep CNC-machined guilloche pattern covered in a multi-phase color coating, creating an effect that changes between blue, purple and magenta hues depending on the angle of the light.

It’s the same visual language that MING introduced with the Iris model – but here it’s even more extreme, with the polarization constantly “switching on and off.” The result is a surface that appears almost fluid, as if it were made up of light waves.

Housing: familiar 29 series architecture

Beneath the visual play lies MING's distinctive design language. The case is made of grade 5 titanium, with distinctive "floating" lugs and no classic bezel.

The diameter is 40 mm, the thickness is 11.8 mm. The sapphire crystal extends uninterrupted over the entire upper surface, creating the feeling that the dial is floating under the glass. The water resistance remains a pragmatic 50 meters.

Mechanics: a serious watch beneath a playful surface

Inside, the caliber works ASE 200.M1, developed for MING by the manufactory Schwarz-EtienneIt is an automatic movement with a micro rotor, open bridge architecture and a high level of visual processing.

The drum is partially skeletonized, allowing for a rough estimate of the power reserve. The entire construction is diamond-cut, emphasizing the depth and layering of the mechanics.

The power reserve is approximately 86 hours, which places the watch among technically serious modern automatics.

The wearing experience: a watch as a slow performance

The most interesting part of the 29.06 Peep Show is not the technical complexity, but the way the clock behaves over time.

This is not a watch that you can “read” quickly. It is an object that changes even when you are not looking at it. One moment it is completely open and colorful, the next it is almost invisible.

MING does not solve the problem of readability, but consciously transforms it into an experience. Time becomes something you observe, not just read.

Limited edition and the reality of luxury

Model 29.06 Peep Show is limited to 50 pieces. The price is approximately 22,000 CHF (excluding taxes), which clearly places it in the segment of high independent horology.

It is an item that is not intended for mass use, but for a very specific type of collector – those who are looking for an idea in a watch, not just prestige.

Conclusion: light as the only true complication mechanism

MING 29.06 Peep Show is one of those watches that transcends the classical understanding of function. It's not meant to be more practical or more precise. It's meant to change the way you look.

By combining polarization, color transformation, and mechanical severity, he creates an object that is both a clock and an optical experiment.

In a world where most watches are returning to tradition, MING is doing something different: pushing the boundaries of perception.

And that's exactly why it's hard to forget.
