Elderberry syrup

Ingredients

  • 40 pieces of elderflowers
  • 2 liters of water
  • 4 pieces of lemon (or orange)
  • 50 G citric acid
  • 3 kg of sugar

Directions

  1. Clean elderflowers (do not wash!) just shake. I would wash the taste away with water. Cut off any longer stems.
  2. Slice the lemons. Then add all the other ingredients listed in a clean bucket, a large bowl. Preferably with a cover!
  3. Leave in a dark and cool place for 3-5 days, preferably covered with a lid or cloth. Let it stand until the sugar dissolves (there is no more sugar at the bottom). Stir well once a day.
  4. Then strain the contents into the pan through a fine cloth (gauze). Boil briefly and fill into clean/sterilized bottles (with screw caps).

Elderberry syrup prepared in this way can be stored for up to 6 months. But we believe that children will drink it quickly.
