In the past, off-road conversion specialists delta4x4 have already taken many off-road vehicles and SUVs to the next level, not only in appearance, but especially in off-road performance. So it's no surprise when a premium SUV like the Rolls Royce Cullinan attracts the attention of experienced technicians from Unterumbach, Bavaria.

Many months of work had gone into plans to transform the English aristocrat when the first inquiry came from a prospective buyer from the Arabian Peninsula. Converting such a rolling icon for the price of a condominium is of course also an exciting challenge, as it must be elegant and functional at the same time, and on the other hand, it must also demonstrate perfect craftsmanship. Anything else would hardly fit the base vehicle.

But how does a luxury SUV become a convincing off-road vehicle? First, you need more ground clearance, which is best achieved with a larger wheelset combined with a lift kit. This includes tires that develop maximum traction even on sand, mud or snow.

A true expedition vehicle also needs a sturdy roof rack that can hold sand boards, shovels, water containers, boxes and, if necessary, a roof tent. The front cross member protects sensitive parts of the vehicle, such as cooling systems. Both the roof racks and the front posts are perfect mounts for additional lighting systems. Used by delta4x4 for over 30 years, the Japanese PIAA headlights are pretty much the cheapest thing on the market. Tested for vibrations up to 4 times the acceleration due to gravity, they have guided the world's top rally and race cars to their destination for decades.

Other options usually include a snorkel system for deep water passage and strong undercarriage protection. This also includes a protected exhaust system, which, due to a smaller flow, also ensures greater performance and a nicer sound.

For Cullinan, that means more detail: 20-inch Delta Force wheels are combined with fat 33-inch Mickey Thompson tires, and the whole set costs around €15,000. To accommodate these huge wheels, delta4x4 has developed new wheel arch extensions that cost around 14,000 euros. A lift of 80 mm is available for 15,000 euros and then, together with a large wheel set, makes the vehicle higher by approx. 150 mm. The front bar will of course be tested according to EC guidelines for pedestrian protection and will cost around 3,900 euros. The snorkel and new exhaust system will also be homologated for Europe, the price for this is not yet known. The PIAA headlamps, which are suitable for rallying, can be switched as working lights or as additional high beams and are relatively cheap, around 2,500 euros. The roof rack, which is of course designed for the heavy loads and vibrations of an off-road expedition, can be purchased from delta4x4 starting at 8,000 euros.

A Rolls Royce Cullinan can be converted as a complete package at Off Road Tuner for around €150,000. And so you get an extremely unique vehicle.
