Samsung presented an interesting portable project in the form of a small cylinder called Freestyle. It can handle 1080p resolution and will be available for $900. In Europe, we expect the amount to be comparable.
Samsung is targeting this device for those with a carefree lifestyle and somewhat for the nomadic experience. At the fore is the fact that the Samsung Freestyle is a portable device that can serve in multiple usage scenarios.
Basically, the 0.83-kilogram LED projector is capable of producing auto-focus, auto-leveling, and auto-leveling images from 30 to 100 inches. The estimated brightness is 550 lumens, it is not very bright, so you will need a dark room or a night under a mild sky for the best image quality.
The Freestyle is powered by Tizen to provide the same programming experience as Samsung's smart TVs, so you'll be pretty well set for a selection of apps, including Netflix, which many Android TV-based all-in-one projectors don't support.
Optional accessories include a waterproof housing, a USB-C battery and a base that allows the projector to be screwed into a standard E26 bulb socket and thus powered. Quite an interesting concept.
Freestyle seems like an ideal companion to videos on TikTok and other social networks. If you're interested in trivialities like lumens, supported streaming protocols and other such details, then this projector is clearly not for you. The form and mobility of this device is particularly interesting. This is also why it is a welcome product in the Samsung eco system!
Aimed at Gen Z and millennials, the Freestyle is a projector, smart speaker and ambient lighting device all rolled into one lightweight, portable device.
