Digitization provides an integrated user experience characterized by individuality and emotionalization in the interior of current BMW models. The so-called - my modes - allow the driver to fully adapt the interior atmosphere to his personal mood and the driving experience he wants. With the presentation of the BMW iX Flow with E Ink at CES 2022, BMW presents the possibility of future technology that also uses digitization to adapt the exterior of the vehicle to different situations and individual preferences. The surface of the BMW iX Flow with E Ink can change its shade at the driver's request.

Fluid color changes are made possible by a specially developed body cladding that is precisely adapted to the contours of BMW's all-electric sports activity vehicle. When stimulated by electrical signals, electrophoretic technology brings different colored pigments to the surface, causing the body's skin to take on the desired color. Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of Design, BMW Group: "The BMW iX Flow is an advanced research and design project and an excellent example of the forward thinking for which BMW is known."

The innovative E Ink technology opens up completely new ways of changing the appearance of the vehicle according to the driver's aesthetic preferences, environmental conditions or even functional requirements. The technology thus offers tremendous potential for personalization in the field of exterior design. It encourages imagination and technology development, with a new level and form of personalization of future production vehicles.

Already today, the chosen color of the car is an expression of the driver's personality. The choice of exterior colors available for current BMW models covers a wide color spectrum. In this way, the desire for a wildly expressive, extravagant or sporty appearance on the outside, as well as the desire for an understated, subtle or elegant appearance can be taken into account. New versions are added every year that reflect the characteristics of the model in question and allow the brand to continue to set trends in the field of exterior design.

New technologies will provide a whole new level of decision-making freedom in the future. "This gives the driver the freedom to express different aspects of their personality or even enjoy changing the exterior and redefine it every time they get into their car," says Stella Clarke, Project Manager for BMW iX Flow with E Ink. "Similar to fashion or status ads on social media channels, the vehicle becomes an expression of different moods and circumstances in everyday life."
