In countries where beer is almost the national drink, there are also recipes with beer are very common. Because we are Slovenians the nation of wine, recipes with beer are less popular here. As with cooking with wine, also with cooking with beer it is considered that during cooking the alcohol evaporates, but they remain taste and aroma, but like wine, it does not change the basic taste, but complements it. There are many ways to use beer in cooking, but start with these recipes for simple and quickly prepared dishes or food supplements.

Recipe for Chocolate Beer Cake:

Ingredients for chocolate cake with beer:

  • 3 dl of dark beer
  • 250 g of flour
  • 100 g cocoa powder
  • 330 g of brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 baking powder
  • 250 g of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • salt

  • 30 g of butter
  • 80 ml of Irish whiskey
  • 200 g of sugar
  • 120 ml of sweet cream

The process of making a chocolate cake with beer:
Set the oven to 180 degrees Celsius, then grease and flour the cake pan. Mix the flour, baking powder, a pinch of salt and cocoa powder in one bowl, and beat the butter and sugar with a mixer in the other. When it becomes fluffy, mix in the eggs and vanilla extract, and then the mixture from the other bowl. Mix until a homogeneous mixture is obtained, but it must not be mixed too much. Pour the batter into the baking dish and bake for 45 to 55 minutes. The best way to check whether it is baked is to poke a toothpick into the cake. The cake is baked if it comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for an hour, then take it out. Next is the preparation of the dressing. We heat the sugar, to which we have added two tablespoons of water, on moderate heat until it becomes dark brown in color. Then pour whiskey over it and set it on fire with a match. When it stops burning, add the sweet cream and bring to a boil. When it boils a bit, set it aside and mix in the butter and pour it over the cake while it's still warm. Have a good run and cheers!

Ingredients for homemade ice cream with beer:

  • 205 g of milk chocolate
  • 180 ml of Guinness beer (you can also choose another dark beer)
  • 250 ml of milk
  • 250 ml of whipping cream
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

The process of making homemade ice cream with beer:
Break the milk chocolate into small pieces and pour into the pan. In a separate pan, heat the milk, to which we have mixed sugar and salt, over medium heat. Beat the yolks separately and pour them into the milk mixture. Stir gently and slowly over moderate heat. We do this until the mass thickens. Then pour it through a strainer into the pan with chocolate. Heat and stir until the chocolate melts completely. When the mixture is smooth, add cream, beer and vanilla extract. Let it cool slightly at room temperature, then transfer the pan to the refrigerator. Arrange the cooled ice cream in the desired container and finally put it in the freezer. Have a good run!

  • 2 dcl of beer
  • 4–5 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 3-4 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • a pinch of thyme
  • a pinch of rosemary

Procedure for preparing salad dressing with beer:
Mix beer, olive oil, soy sauce, crushed rosemary and thyme in a bowl. We suggest it as a dressing for a green salad with the addition of red, green and yellow peppers, leeks, cucumbers and celery. Have a good run!
