In 1898, along with passenger car driver Louis Renault, he climbed the Rue Lepic, one of the steepest streets in Paris, with his car, the special feature of which was the direct connection of the gearbox to the engine shaft. Since then, Renault has been looking forward to the future, and so it is with the EZ-GO concept.
Today, a new era of mobility has arrived with even deeper changes for both users and car manufacturers. Seeing the Group Renault remains the same at its core: to provide sustainable mobility for all, today and in the future. This means that they will prove themselves in a leading role in the development of vehicles with zero emissions, constantly understand the guidelines and recognize the needs of users, and offer transport solutions to everyone who needs them, who wants to own a vehicle or share it with others. Given the technological advancements, new user expectations, societal issues and the regulatory constraints they face, this vision is even more relevant than ever before.
The future of mobility will be electric, connected and autonomous. People will decide whether they want to drive alone or be transported, with or without a driver. With vehicles that will no longer be completely independent products, but increasingly an integral part of their environment. With mobility services that will be an integral part of smart cities, which will be ensured by connectivity technologies, intelligently managed data and other innovations in the service of a more pleasant urban life. Renault has been preparing for this for a long time, especially by being open to cooperation with partners in the scheme of open innovation approaches, which makes it possible to break out of the framework of synergistic effects within the Association and explore new horizons.
Renault EZ-GO (pronounced the same as “Easy Go") is a robotic vehicle, more precisely, an autonomous vehicle without a driver, with an electric drive, for shared use. It is intended for transportation around the city and the suburbs - up to 6 passengers at the same time. Next to it is a dedicated station that blends in with the nearby urban environment.
Renault EZ-GO it is more than just a design study. It is a vehicle and a service at the same time, it is part of the smart city ecosystem that is gradually being created by city authorities, municipalities and the private sector. Its modular construction base allows for a variety of applications and different types of bodies. Renault EZ-GO is the first member of the family of studies that will be presented in 2018.
Renault EZ-GO represents Renault's vision of a future on-demand mobility service that would be a real asset for the city, perhaps thanks to a recognizable iconic shape that would represent its philosophy and commitment to efficient and sustainable mobility that would be accessible to all. Beyond this symbolic aspect and has – thanks to its functional properties – Renault EZ-GO in cities a dual role. First, it simplifies everyone's journey, whether as a single mode of transport or as part of a multi-modal network. For door-to-door or station-to-station transport. All this for an acceptable price, as it is a shared service. Such facilitated rides would help users reduce stress and provide them with new personal and professional opportunities. By moving away from the role of driver, users will be able to spend their time on work or entertainment.
