Mercedes introduced digital headlights that can project a pedestrian crossing

Mercedes-Benz Digital Light

Mercedes introduced digital headlights, which are actually a projector. This doesn't mean you'll be able to turn the garage door into a projection surface and play a movie on it (but that would be nice!), but the headlights will be able to project messages, signage and other information onto the roadway, including a crosswalk. The new technology will make driving even safer, and the high-resolution light beam will not cause blinding of other participants.

Mercedes he showed revolutionary digital headlights, which mean a real little lighting revolution. Among other things, the lights will be able to draw pedestrian crossing, if it doesn't happen. So it's not just about the lighting, the headlights are becoming communication channel. If they were already there - with turn signals and high beams - then we are talking about ultra-smart communication.

High resolution digital light beams they will not cause blinding other drivers. The projection of light information onto the road is made possible by the software. They will operate the headlights LED chips. Each will have four with 1024 points of light and more than a million flexible micromirrors.

This type of lighting will be even more effective than laser lighting, in addition to directing the light with a continuous beam with surgical precision and we will be able to draw a pedestrian crossing on the road, direction of turn, light messages, lane markings... In this way, we can communicate much more to traffic participants than just indicating the direction with a turn signal. They operate the headlight algorithms, which analyze the data from the road and evaluate the surface themselves, and as a result each of the two million pixels receives instructions about light intensity and direction. In practice, this means optimal distribution of light.
