There, they simply offered the best ratio between the price and the offered features. And they were the absolute champions of this class. The so-called "best buy". But the Chinese were not satisfied with this. They wanted more, and soon they were making phones in the 800-euro class, which came very close to the best premium phones. And they continue this story this year as well. So they are stepping up the hunt for the throne.

OnePlus ranked just below the top with its flagship phone of the year. But he always lacked that something. Many criticized it for an average camera system that was good, but not the best. Many criticized it for the lack of some features that are logical in the "premium" class. For example OnePlus for a long time, phones were not made of completely premium materials and, for example, did not allow contactless charging of the battery. They lacked some feature, such as an IR sensor or decent speakers. But step by step, the brand rose and today offers practically everything. This also means a price that is no longer much lower than the price of leading premium smartphones. And with that, it somehow loses its charm and its primary strategy. To offer customers the most for their money. The most for "normal" money.
New ones OnePlus 9 Pro it is a good phone in every way. The design is otherwise conservative and nothing shocking, even a bit too ostentatious for phones that were once considered very minimalistic. Extremely similar to the current one Huawei P40, or a few years old Samsung. It seems like the design is from a few years ago and it's not 2021. The four camera system on the back is otherwise nicely designed and not too prominent. The front part, however, is flat anyway with excessively rounded edges and a cut-out for the camera – this time on the left side of the screen and not in the middle. The design somehow gets lost in the gray average of "Chinese" phones, which bet too much on overflowing colors and certain already slightly kitschy touches. Which is a departure from what the brand represented in the past. It was considered the most refined brand, where nothing is too much.

Achilles' heel - now an advantage
If the predecessors of the model OnePlus 9 Pro famous for the best screens in the industry and outstanding benchmarks in various tests, on the other hand, the photography itself could disappoint and get lost in the average. And since the latter is the most important for most users, Oneplus follows suit Huawei and Leica, concluded a three-year collaboration with the brand Hasselblad. This time he only lent "knowledge" about colors and processing. In the future, they should also participate in the development of hardware and support software. With this, Oneplus will gain on the quality of the key features of smartphones - and that is photography. According to the first impressions of many testers online, the photo does not deviate excessively this time, as expected. But he is in contact with the best, which may not be what we expected.
There are four cameras, among which the ultra-wide stands out in terms of features, which has the largest sensor with as much as 50 PM and is extremely interesting. Then there is the classic 48 MP wide camera with a zf/1.8 lens and a telephoto lens with 3.3x optical zoom. There is also a depth sensor that complements the camera system. The selfie camera has 16MP and records video at only 1080p, which will not be enough for many Instagramers these days. As a rule, the latter create records in 4K.

OnePlus has always bet on benchmark tests and prepared phones that have often entered the very top of the most capable phones when it comes to speed tests. And they didn't skimp this time either. It's the heart Snapdragon 888, who keeps him company 8 or 12 GB working memory UFS 3.1. Data storage is 128GB or 256GB, which is relatively little since the memory cannot be expanded. The battery is otherwise completely average and only 4500 mAh. However, it can be charged extremely quickly with a charging cable and charger (included) up to 65W. At the same time, extra fast charging is also possible wirelessly with as much as 50W. But that's why you need a special wireless charger from the manufacturer. The phone's screen is again above average in Fluid2 AMOLED technology, 6.7 inches in size and with the possibility of refreshing at 120 Hz. The fingerprint sensor is hidden under the screen, which is placed rather low on the screen, which is a bit annoying. The phone has stereo speakers and a headphone jack. It is protected against water with the IP68 standard. Everything is fine and correct. Ah, but.
Oneplus 9 Pro, with a price of around 899 euros, is definitely no longer a mid-range phone, but aims for a higher class. With this, somehow, the brand is losing its focus as a manufacturer of a good phone for "normal money" and increasingly following in the footsteps of Huawei, which had practically the same business path. However, it should be emphasized that actually in in our eyes, the winner is the model without the Pro tag, which offers practically everything (really practically everything) for 200 euros less - that is, for the price of 699 euros. Which is worth thinking about. The only thing missing is the macro camera, which you won't use anyway, but the rest is practically identical. So the real winner is actually the OnePlus 9 model. And the latter is also ours a contender for the best mid-range phone. For the rest, OnePlus will have to show what it can do by partnering with Hasselblad.
