BMW M Motorsport has prepared a new entry model - the BMW M2 Racing 2025 - into the world of serious racing. And if you think this is just another “track toy” for rich kids - think again.
At BMW They clearly don't need six cylinders to create an adrenaline-pumping monster. Instead, they went back to basics – just like in 1986, when the world first saw the legendary E30 M3. The new generation BMW M2 Racing The 2025 drops the road-going 3.0-liter six-cylinder for the 2026 season in favor of a more modest but efficient 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 313 horsepower (230 kW) and 420 Nm of torque. This move isn't just pragmatic—it's romantic.
After its presentation at the DTM season opener in Oschersleben, it is clear: the BMW M2 Racing is not just a cheaper alternative to the M4 GT4 or M2 CS Racing, but a completely serious machine aimed at private teams, amateur racing fans and anyone looking for performance without a six-figure bill.
Engine and Drivetrain – BMW M2 Racing 2025
Under the hood roars the B48 – a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that packs a punch despite its compact dimensions. The engine develops 313 hp (230 kW) and approximately 420 Nm of torque, enabling the vehicle to reach a top speed of over 270 km/h (168 mph). The power is transmitted via a 7-speed ZF automatic transmission to the rear wheels, where it is tamed by a mechanical differential lock with its own cooling system.
And yes, there's no manual transmission - but let's be honest, most racers today are better at turning the steering wheel than shifting. An automatic means faster laps and fewer missed gears.
Weight, chassis and driving dynamics – BMW M2 Racing 2025
The BMW M2 Racing 2025 is more than 230 kilograms lighter than its road-going sibling, weighing in at 1,498 kilograms (3,302 lbs). This is achieved by removing unnecessary comfort and incorporating genuine racing components. KW dampers developed in collaboration with the GT3 program, adjustable anti-roll bars and M Compound brakes with racing pads – everything is designed for maximum performance on the track.
Because racing is no joke, the M2 Racing has a full FIA-homologated roll cage, a Sabelt GT-AM racing seat (passenger seat optional), a fire suppression system and still – surprise – air conditioning! Yes, even in the summer at Monza, the racer will stay cool. The digital displays are adapted to display telemetry, meaning you’ll know exactly why you weren’t fastest at Turn 7.
Exterior and customization options
The base color is classic Alpine White – the ideal canvas for decals, numbers and sponsors. For a more iconic look, the M Motorsport graphics package with the famous blue and red stripes is also available. The list of optional equipment includes rear wings, an air jack, a GT-Pro seat package and an adjustable exhaust system.
Price and delivery – BMW M2 Racing 2025
The BMW M2 Racing will go on sale in June 2025 at selected BMW M Motorsport dealerships, with deliveries expected before the start of the 2026 season. Price? Just €98,000 (excl. tax), less than a quarter of the price of the M4 GT3. In the budget racer class, it’s a real revolution.
Conclusion: BMW M2 Racing 2025
The BMW M2 Racing is exactly what the modern speed enthusiast needs – an efficient, reliable and – for a change – affordable racing car. Its combination of compact weight, classic four-cylinder engine and top-notch equipment allows for a serious entry into the world of racing without immediately going bankrupt.
With this model, BMW not only brings back the spirit of the E30 M3, but also allows the next generation of racers to test themselves on the track without having to sell a kidney. And if you wonder if that’s “M” enough – just ask Jens Klingmann, who tested the car: “It’s a real race car, only you can afford it.” And indeed, the M2 Racing is the ticket to real, old-school BMW racing fun – no gimmicks, no prestige – just you, the car and the track.
