Have you put in fruits, vegetables? Made jam? Do you have the same problem every year that your winter clothes spoil quickly? We have a solution for you so that all your efforts will not go to waste.
Although it is most likely that you will eat them all before the end of winter, sometimes a pickled specialty survives until spring. Provided it doesn't break.
Even perfectly prepared pickled peppers in a well-sterilized jar can spoil if stored in the wrong place.
Let's see which places are not recommended for winter storage.
Proximity to a heat source
Sometimes it happens that housewives store the winter coat on the kitchen shelves or in the pantry due to lack of space. If it is near a heating element, this is a very bad place.
The upper shelves of the kitchen elements are also not recommended in any way. All the heat from the stove and other electrical appliances you use collects at the ceiling in the kitchen, which means that the glasses heat up.
Open terrace
In severe frost, the contents of the glass may freeze and the glass may crack. On the other hand, it heats up in sunny weather and thus potentially spoils.
Uneven temperature
In order for the winter garden to survive, it is important to provide it with a roughly stable temperature, and such a place is the basement. It is also not recommended to keep it where there is a draft, for example on the floor in the corridor, in cupboards by the window, on a closed terrace where the windows open...
Light
It is best to find a dark place for the jars, as strong light spoils the acidic wintergreen. Illuminated shelves are therefore out of the question.
Refrigerator
Winter jams made with sugar, such as jams, should never be stored in the refrigerator. Somehow, it is only suitable for winter food with a limited shelf life, such as pickles, and that too when the jar has already been opened.
Wet place
The basement is often considered an ideal place to store winter clothes, as it maintains a stable low temperature and is always dark. However, if the basement is damp, this is not a good option, mold can infect the glasses.
